My Philosophy
Every child has abundant strengths, but sometimes children don't realize them or recognize their potential. Herein lies the joy of being an educator. Our goal is to help reveal to your child their talents and watch them rise to meet new challenges. This will be a year of remarkable growth and celebration. Here are some of my core beliefs:
Partnership
Let's work together. Please reach out when you have questions or concerns.
Be You - acceptance of self and others
We're different... quirky, quiet, talkative, serious. I want to honor traits in your children and help foster how to accept others and their own traits.
Strong Relationships and Build our Classroom Community
Strong relationships with your children is paramount, along with building a safe and supportive community where they can thrive. I believe in focusing on your child's strengths and identifying attainable goals versus deficit thinking.
Our learning community is strongest when students have a voice and hear the voices of others. Throughout the year, we will do community building activities that foster trust, acceptance, teamwork, and communication.
Growth Mindset - take risks, make mistakes, be reflective
I help students develop a growth mindset around tasks that feel hard. We all have areas that challenge us and I encourage kids to identify this area, reflect on it, and set a goal with specific actions. I regularly model making mistakes or struggling through a problem.
Collaborative Practice - develop tools to communicate
Soft skills help us work with others, solve problems, use clear communication, be assertive, and believe in ourselves. We work on this through activities where students work together, share ideas, reach decisions, and respect the ideas of others.
Executive Functioning Skills
We'll work on the following skills:
