Reading Information
Building a community of learners and readers.
This year, a way to best support your child is to make reading a daily part of your afternoon routine. Reading is the foundation to developing life-long learners.
Reading at home:
1. Can be done together
2. Through books on tape
3. Silent reading
4. Enjoying you reading to your child.
If your child is a reluctant reader (like mine), read the first 40 pages to your child to help her get into the book. Also, an important, but overlooked part of being a reader, is discussing the book. This helps to deepen comprehension, but also it nurtures to joy or reading. Discuss a book how you might discuss a movie.
We will read and discuss books and articles daily in class. Book clubs are a highlight of the year and last year we had current event discussions with 5th graders!
Looking forward to year of reading! Please make sure your child spends 20 minutes reading at home.
