Technology Use
Screen Time in School
This year your child has access to a Chromebook each day to enhance his learning experience. We will use Chromebooks as a tool for learning - an interactive process. "Leaning in" as I like to say, instead of "leaning back" with their feet up. Here's a look at how we use technology
Technology is a pedagogical tool used with purpose. It will not replace the importance of hands-on, collaborative activities and exploration in the classroom.
As an example, our spelling instruction will be partially delivered through video lessons created by the fourth grade team as well as through small group instruction (referred to as blended learning). Every child is working at different levels in these subjects and we want to honor the pace and place at which they are working.

- Compose writing and conduct research on Chromebooks
- Collaborate with classmates on various digital projects
- Engage in digital classroom discussions where everyone contributes and has a voice
- Differentiate instruction to allow kids to work at their pace and at the right place for her skill level
- Develop digital citizenship skills and an awareness around proper use of technology

- It will not be used all the time
- It will not be used during recess
- It will not be used for playing games (not tied to educational purposes)
